Champions... 2008 Governor's Cup
Seattle became the first non-Idaho school to win the Governor’s Cup in the six-year history of the event
The Governor’s Cup - The Governor’s Cup competition began in 1998 when all three of Idaho’s large four-year universities began their soccer programs. It originally lasted three years then was dropped before being reinstated for the 2006 season. Each school hosted the tournament on a rotating basis beginning with Boise State, then Idaho State, followed by Idaho. To round out the field, the host school has always invited a fourth school to compete in the cup. Boise State and Idaho have never met during the Governor’s Cup waiting instead to meet during the conference portion of the schedule. Idaho State has won both cup competitions since the
Side bar... Saxton’s goal would prove to be the only shot credited to Boise State in the entire match, as Seattle University outshot the Broncos, 12-1.
Side bar...The Redhawks extended their unbeaten streak to four matches and joined the SU men’s soccer team with three victories over Division I opposition so far in the 2008 campaign. The All-Tournament Team is scheduled to be announced either later Sunday or Monday morning.
